THE COMMISSION

An image begins
with attention.

A series of homes and working spaces designed with unusual attention to where the sun falls, how material wears, and what happens at the edges of a room.

Rather than photographing each building as a set of elevations, we followed the movement of the day. These are spaces made more complete by their inhabitants.

Notes from
the shoot.

We made the first frames before breakfast and the last after the rooms had emptied. That length of time gave each space its own sequence.

Architecture is never still. A photograph can hold a moment of the building’s life without pretending that it is the whole story.
